Teacher selection philosophy
Despite the huge number of applications, the Founding Head and head of pre-prep read every single teaching application personally. Each candidate had three rounds of interviews: an initial interview to discuss their attitudes towards academic success, pastoral care and co-curricular involvement; a second interview with a planning task to show that they can teach with a child-centred, King's Bangkok approach; and a final interview with a senior member of staff at King's College School, Wimbledon. The only exceptions to this are those who joined us directly at King's College School, Wimbledon in December to interview in person during our recruitment trip. The extensive process selected only the best candidates and shows our commitment to having the best possible group of founding teachers.
All classroom and key specialist teachers must be fully qualified with either a degree or diploma in education or a postgraduate certificate of education (PGCE). We also looked for teachers with extensive teaching experience in their area and we prioritised teachers who we felt would stay with us for a long time. To do this, we discarded CVs that showed teachers regularly changing jobs after only one or two years. Finally, we looked for experience teaching the UK curriculum, experience working with students with English as an additional language and candidates who had worked in similar, high-achieving schools that set high standards for themselves. We also looked for teaching couples and teachers with children who can join our school. In short, we have selected very committed, experienced and well-qualified teachers from some of the best schools in the UK and abroad.
We have teachers coming from the UK, from King's College School, Wimbledon itself and other top international schools.
However, we have never compromised on our highest priority which is to recruit teachers who share our values of good manners, kindness and wisdom. Every teacher we have selected is kind-hearted, has a nurturing and caring approach to education and is passionate about helping young people develop into polite and respectful young men and women. These values will be further emphasised during an induction programme aided by King’s College School, Wimbledon to ensure that the teaching quality is of the highest standard.
