PASTORAL CARE

At King's Bangkok everyone is involved in the pastoral care of our students

Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do.

What It Means to Us

One of the central pillars of our school is its outstanding pastoral care. Pastoral care refers to how our school looks after every student as an individual.

It is the way in which we work together as a school community to share information and develop a sense of belonging in our children so that they look forward to coming to school each day. It also involves how we work with parents to ensure that students are getting the help and support they need to succeed.

Form Tutor

Each student has a form tutor. The form tutor is the person who knows each child the best and is the first point of contact for parents. They will work with the other members of the school including the Head of Early Years, Head of Primary, Deputy Head of Seniors and the Headmaster. to ensure that we are all working together to look after the interests of our children.

WILLIAM FORSE

“Every member of our community endeavours to contribute to our climate of belongingness - our systems of pastoral care hinge on the value of kindness which pervades all aspects of school life
at King's Bangkok.”

House System

We are very proud to share our house system with King’s College School, Wimbledon. In the Primary students are assigned to a house just before they join Year 1. They work together to gain house points which reward behaviour that models our values of good manners, kindness and wisdom.

Students also compete in house competitions which gives them both purpose and pride in shared achievements. This also allows them to build networks of friends across year groups within the framework of friendly competition.

Every house has a Head of House who also looks out for the students in their house to further support their wellbeing. The house also gives students the chance to take on responsibility and develop their leadership.

We are all involved

We are all involved in the pastoral care of our students and we hope that our focus on kindness will help every student feel they have a number of people they can go to if they have a problem.

“For many students, representing their house in a range of competitive and collaborative events will give them both purpose and pride in shared achievement.

Our house system gives each student numerous opportunities to do their best for a common cause, to exercise responsibility, to build loyalty and respect for others through house events, which are wide and varied to allow every student to apply their talents.

Another key reason behind this is to build networks across the school. We know that our students will go on to be successful and we want them to help each other in later life.”

PSHE Lessons

(Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education)

PSHE lessons provide a framework for teaching equal respect and tolerance for beliefs of others and a commitment to and responsibility for others.

This supports the school's aims for bright, intellectually inquisitive girls and boys who will enjoy and benefit from the challenging and exciting teaching provided here. It also plays a fundamental role in helping our students make a positive contribution to society through the cultivation of appropriate social skills.

Counselling Services at King’s Bangkok

At King’s College International School Bangkok, we provide both prevention and intervention counseling services to all students. Our counsellors work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers and Senior Management to create and maintain a climate where every student feels safe and supported in their social, emotional, and academic development.

Our counsellors are here to help students enhance their personal, social and academic development, and build effective skills to manage possible challenges they may be exposed to in their daily lives. Individual and small group sessions can address personal and social issues, as well as supporting students develop the skills needed to thrive and build enriching relationships with others.

Not all students will require counselling services during their time at King’s Bangkok, but we feel that it is vital that we offer services to them to insure proactivity and preemptive support for those in need. In this regard, we ensure a culture of openness and understanding through a combination of our well trained counsellors and a curriculum designed to support students.

Students can be referred to our counselors by their teacher/tutor, school principal, parents or themselves (Senior students). The counsellors will work with school staff and parents in order to manage any serious situations. In all other respects, however, our counsellors offer complete confidentiality to ensure that students feel safe to effectively express themselves. Our counsellors can be contacted through counselling@kingsbangkok.ac.th

Our pledge

Every student, along with all staff, has an important role to play in upholding and maintaining our values regarding to respect, tolerance, kindness and care for all. These values will be upheld if we help to create a compassionate and supportive environment in which people feel valued, able to be themselves and are free from intimidation. All forms of behaviour, whether in person, at school or online, should be maturely considered and rooted in kindness, civility and decency. We are all very proud of our school's welcoming atmosphere and we all work hard to maintain it every day.
