Our Loy Krathong celebration brings vibrant Thai tradition to life across campus. Students dress in traditional Thai attire, kick off the day with a grand parade, and enjoy dynamic assemblies showcasing classical music and dance.

Woven into this cultural milestone is a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. From learning about waterway conservation to designing eco-friendly Krathongs and creating environmental artwork, students connect cultural heritage with global sustainability.

The entire school community comes together each April for a vibrant and joyful Songkran celebration, honoring the Thai New Year through a blend of cherished traditions, cultural discovery, and lively festivities.

Throughout the week, students immerse themselves in Thai culture through hands-on learning and seasonal activities. Each year features dynamic cultural themes—such as exploring different traditional Thai textiles like Pha Khao Ma or vibrant floral patterns (Lhai Dok)—allowing students to showcase their creativity in a colorful school-wide fashion show. The festive atmosphere comes alive with creative school decorations designed collaboratively by our students to reflect the unique theme of each celebration.

Central to our Songkran tradition are the meaningful cultural ceremonies. Students deepen their appreciation for Thai heritage by participating in the respectful Song Nam Phra (blessing of sacred images) and the Rod Nam Dum Hua water-pouring ceremony, expressing gratitude, respect, and warm wishes to elders and teachers. The school community also enjoys sampling delicious traditional Thai desserts, generously supported by the Parents of King's Bangkok.

The celebrations conclude with spirited water games and playful festivities, creating joyful memories while offering our students a meaningful, immersive connection to Thailand's rich cultural heritage.

At King’s College International School Bangkok, we embrace and honour the rich Thai tradition of Wai Kru, a meaningful occasion where students express their gratitude, respect, and appreciation to their teachers. During our annual Wai Kru ceremony, students present traditional floral offerings with symbolic wishes for wisdom, perseverance, and respect to demonstrate their reverence for the dedicated teachers who guide them. This cherished tradition highlights the deep bond between students and teachers, reinforcing our commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive community that celebrates Thai culture within our international setting.

Beyond mere language acquisition, our curriculum places a significant emphasis on incorporating Thai culture and history into the learning journey. Students enthusiastically immerse themselves in exploring the rich heritage and traditions of Thailand, making our Thai classes an integral part of a well-rounded education. Each year group explores distinct culture topics, for example, Year 5 students recently focused on the intriguing theme "Kha Nom Thai Rai Tiem Tan," delving into various types of Thai desserts, their origins, and cultural significance. The exploration extended beyond theory to practical engagement, with students crafting miniature desserts using light clay, adding an enjoyable hands-on dimension to their learning experience. Similarly, Year 7 students have been captivated by the exploration of 'Pa Taem,' a tourist attraction in Northeast Thailand. This not only enhances their reading skills but also provides an immersive understanding of Esan (Northeast) culture, encompassing food, local language, and leisure activities in the provinces. This integration of culture into our Thai lessons goes beyond textbooks, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Learning is not confined only to the classroom of course. Our students are also immersed in a myriad of Thai cultural experiences through a series of carefully curated field trips. In their time at King’s Bangkok, they will travel to no fewer than 10 of Thailand’s provinces. At Patom Organic Farm, they gain insights into traditional farming methods, fostering an appreciation for sustainable practices and conservation. As they venture to the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Ayutthaya, the historical narratives of the Ayutthaya Kingdom unfold, intertwined with explorations into traditional building materials. In Sattahip, the children learn about fishing, visit to a turtle breeding centre. In Nakhon Nayok, they immerse themselves in the intricacies of agriculture, from rice cultivation to herb gardening, while Rayong offers an invaluable opportunity at the Sea Turtle Preservation Centre, contributing to the vital cause of marine conservation. Journeying to Khao Yai, they encounter the wonders of a national park and local wildlife, while Sam Roi Yot reveals the vibrant life of fishing communities and the imperative role of marine preservation. Kanchanaburi unfolds layers of history, both through a visit to Mallika City and exploration of key sites associated with the Second World War. Chiang Rai becomes a platform for service work as students prepare and deliver English lessons at local Thai village schools, engaging with locals, navigating markets, and discovering the rich tapestry of landmarks and monuments that define this captivating region, as well as exploring and understanding local cave geology and ecosystems. These immersive field trips do not only expand our students’ knowledge but also cultivate a deep connection to the rich tapestry of Thai culture, ensuring a holistic and memorable learning experience.

Parental involvement is a cornerstone of our vibrant school community. We strongly believe that a close partnership between home and school is essential to nurturing every child’s growth, confidence, and success.

To foster this connection, we regularly host Parent Workshops designed to deepen understanding of our curriculum and share practical strategies for supporting students at home. Parents are also warmly invited to school throughout the year to view student work, celebrate academic milestones, and experience their children’s learning journeys firsthand.

Beyond the classroom, our families bring boundless energy to whole-school life. Parents consistently support our key cultural and community events throughout the year—including Family Day, Loy Krathong, Songkran, and International Day. Whether helping children prepare creative attire, participating in hands-on activities like Krathong crafting, or volunteering, their presence adds warmth and personality to every celebration.

We are particularly fortunate to receive outstanding support from our parent organisation, the Parents of King’s Bangkok. From organising festive Lucky Draw games to sharing traditional Thai desserts during seasonal events, their generous contributions bring immense joy and a true sense of togetherness to our students and staff alike.
