Let’s learn Science: from caterpillar to butterfly

In mid-September, King’s College International School Bangkok sent our students a caterpillar box, included in our resource packs, for them to witness the life cycle of a butterfly with their own eyes as part of science lessons. They had a blast observing their pupa’s changes until cocoons hatched into butterflies, which were then released into nature from their own hands.

After seeing the full life cycle of the insect, we also encouraged them to get their creative juices flowing and make a caterpillar diary. They had so much fun drawing and painting that they were excited to consolidate what they had learnt from the hands-on butterfly-growing process.

Even though the students still have virtual classes and meet their teachers and friends online, King’s Bangkok School is committed to giving them tangible experiences like this to help them stay connected and continue to learn without disruption.

เมื่อช่วงกลางเดือนที่ผ่านมา โรงเรียนนานาชาติคิงส์คอลเลจกรุงเทพได้ส่งดักแด้ไปพร้อมกับ resource pack เพื่อให้นักเรียนได้เรียนรู้วัฏจักรชีวิตของผีเสื้ออย่างเต็มรูปแบบด้วยตาของพวกเขาเอง ซึ่งนี่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการเรียนวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ของนักเรียนของเรา โดยเรากำหนดให้เด็ก ๆ เรียนรู้ผ่านการสังเกต เฝ้าดูการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปของดักแด้จวบจบกลายเป็นผีเสื้อ ซึ่งเราให้นักเรียนปล่อยผีเสื้อตัวนั้น ๆ ไปตามธรรมชาติ เมื่อถึงเวลาที่มันสามารถโบยบินได้

หลังจากที่เด็ก ๆ ได้เห็นวัฏจักรชีวิตของผีเสื้อแล้ว คุณครูยังต่อยอดความคิดสร้างสรรค์ของเด็ก ๆ ด้วยการให้พวกเขาทำสมุดบันทึกวัฏจักรชีวิต ที่จะไม่เพียงเปิดโอกาสให้เด็ก ๆ ได้วาดรูป ระบายสี ฝึกความคิดสร้างสรรค์ผ่านการทำชิ้นงานของตัวเองแล้ว แต่ยังเป็นการทบทวนสิ่งที่ตัวเองเพิ่งได้เรียนรู้ไปในตัวด้วย

ถึงแม้ว่าในช่วงเวลานี้ เด็ก ๆ จะได้พบคุณครูและเพื่อน ๆ ผ่านทางออนไลน์ แต่เรายังพยายามมอบประสบการณ์ให้พวกเขาได้เรียนรู้ผ่านการมองเห็น และมีประสบการณ์ด้วยตัวของพวกเขาเอง เพื่อพัฒนาการเรียนรู้ให้เป็นไปอย่างต่อเนื่อง
