Through conversations with Mr Richard, Head of Sixth Form, and Mr Andrei, University Counsellor, we uncover how personalised guidance, academic mentorship, and values-led support prepare students to go further, with confidence and clarity.

What defines a successful Sixth Form experience?

“It’s not just about academic results,” Mr Richard explains. “It’s defined by personal growth, leading by example, the development of confidence, resilience, and curiosity, and a strong sense of community.”

A successful Sixth Form experience at King's Bangkok means that students leave with more than qualifications. They develop a clear understanding of who they are and what they want to achieve—supported by strong relationships with peers and teachers. Whether heading to a top global university or pursuing a unique post- King's Bangkok pathway, students are equipped with the mindset to succeed.

 

How do relationships between pupils and teachers change?

As students step into the Sixth Form, the teacher-student relationship becomes more collaborative and mentor-driven. “Teachers act more as mentors and academic advisors, promoting dialogue, critical thinking, and self-directed study,” says Mr Richard. Students are encouraged to take greater ownership, meet deadlines independently, and seek feedback proactively. This sense of mutual respect creates a supportive learning environment that empowers students to take intellectual risks.

 

How does the Sixth Form prepare students for life beyond school?

Preparation goes beyond academics. Sixth Form at King's Bangkok is designed to equip students with life skills. “Students learn to manage their time, communicate effectively, develop skills in oracy and think critically,” Mr Richard shares. The enrichment and extend programmes, along with leadership roles, independent work experience, and co-curricular activities, provide students with a broader understanding of the world and the tools to navigate it with integrity.

 

What does university counselling at King's Bangkok look like?

University counselling at King's Bangkok is a structured and highly personalised process. Students receive one-to-one guidance from a team of experienced counsellors who get to know them well beyond their academic profiles. “We take a holistic and relationship-driven approach,” Mr Andrei shares.

From Year 10, pupils engage in exploratory classes that help them connect their school experiences to future possibilities. Tools like ‘Morrisby Profiling’, psychometric testing, and reflection exercises help students clarify strengths and identify interests. “It’s about helping them see that everything they do at King's Bangkok can be part of a bigger journey,” Mr Andrei says.

In Years 12 and 13, the process becomes more tailored. Students meet with counsellors at least monthly, sometimes several times a week. Counsellors support them through university research, shortlisting, and applications—be it UCAS, Common App, or regional platforms.

“We ensure their applications reflect both ambition and authenticity,” says Mr Richard. Mr Andrei adds, “Personalisation also means understanding their background, family context, and values—so the guidance isn’t just about rankings, but about fit.”

What does student-led discovery look like in Year 12?

In Year 12, students take more ownership of their university journey. Through weekly ‘Living in the Modern World’ lessons, led by the university counselling team, students begin researching courses, attending open days, building CVs, and drafting personal statements.

“The primary function of these classes is to foster independence and ignite curiosity,” says Mr Richard. Mr Andrei notes that they also host large university fairs, group trips to prestigious institutions (including a visit to King’s College School Wimbledon), and arrange university rep sessions so students can engage directly with admissions experts.

By the end of Year 12, students finalise a balanced list of universities and meet with parents and counsellors to review their goals and choices. Over the summer, they are strongly encouraged to visit universities in person. “There’s no substitute for being on campus,” Mr Andrei emphasises.

 

How do you help pupils discover their strengths and goals—especially if they feel unsure?

“We start by listening,” says Mr Andrei. Many students begin unsure of their direction, and that’s okay. Through conversations, self-assessment tools, and reflective projects, students begin to recognise their own motivations and potential.

In Year 10, Mr Andrei encourages students to try various activities and reflect on what energises them. The Morrisby assessment gives insight into aptitudes and career affinities, followed by one-on-one discussions with a psychometric expert.

"By Year 11, we’re connecting those reflections to real-world experiences—like internships or research opportunities," Mr Andrei adds. Mr Richard agrees: “Even small wins help. It’s about building confidence through achievable goals and a supportive environment.”

 

What do you say if students are afraid or unsure about applying to top universities?

“Excellence is not defined solely by rankings,” Mr Richard asserts. Instead, the focus is on fit—the pathway that allows each student to thrive. “Many high-achieving students begin with self-doubt,” he adds, “but we help them break down the application process into manageable steps, show how preparation can build readiness.”

Mr Andrei echoes this perspective. “Top universities aren’t looking for perfection. They want thoughtful, curious individuals with a story to tell.” He helps students reflect on their motivations, compare profiles with admitted students, and see high aspirations as opportunities for growth rather than pressure. “It’s not about obsessing over outcomes—it’s about using the process as a chance to discover yourself.”

 

A message to our first graduating class

This year marks a milestone for King’s College International School Bangkok: our very first graduating class. With just 35 students, our Sixth Form pupils have received over 80 offers from top universities across the UK, the US, Asia, and beyond — a remarkable achievement shaped not only by academic strength but by personal growth, resilience, and thoughtful support.

“I’m very proud of our first graduating cohort,” shares Mr Andrei. “We’ve seen them navigate anxiety, self-doubt, and complex application journeys — and come through with confidence, clarity, and a sense of purpose.”

What makes this cohort exceptional isn’t just where they’re going, but how far they’ve come — and how ready they are to step into the world with integrity and independence.

Mr Andrei กล่าวเสริมว่า ในปีนี้นักเรียนยังได้เข้าร่วมงาน University Fair ขนาดใหญ่ เดินทางไปเยี่ยมชมมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำ (รวมถึงที่ King’s College School Wimbledon) และเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมพูดคุยกับตัวแทนมหาวิทยาลัยโดยตรง เมื่อจบ Year 12 นักเรียนจะได้สรุปรายชื่อมหาวิทยาลัยที่สนใจ พร้อมเข้าร่วมประชุมร่วมกับผู้ปกครองและที่ปรึกษา เพื่อทบทวนเป้าหมายและแนวทางการสมัคร ในช่วงปิดเทอมฤดูร้อน โรงเรียนจะสนับสนุนให้นักเรียนเดินทางไปเยี่ยมชมมหาวิทยาลัยด้วยตนเอง “ไม่มีอะไรทดแทนประสบการณ์จากการไปเยือนสถานที่จริงได้” Mr Andrei เน้นย้ำ

“เราเริ่มจากการตั้งใจฟัง”  Mr Andrei อธิบาย “ทุกคนเริ่มต้นด้วยความไม่แน่ใจได้ทั้งนั้น” เราจะใช้เครื่องมือ ผ่านบทสนทนา เครื่องมือประเมินตัวเอง และกิจกรรมสะท้อนความคิด นักเรียนค่อย ๆ มองเห็น Motivation ของตัวเอง และเข้าใจศักยภาพของตัวเองมากขึ้น

อย่างใน Year 10 เราจะสนับสนุนให้นักเรียนลองทำกิจกรรมที่หลากหลาย ให้สังเกตว่าตัวเองรู้สึกมีพลังกับอะไร จากนั้นจะมีการทำ Morrisby Assessment เพื่อดูแนวโน้มความถนัดและอาชีพที่สอดคล้อง ก่อนจะเข้าสู่ one-on-one discussions กับผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านจิตวิทยาเพื่อประเมินวิธีคิด
