Opening hearts and minds through theatre: IGCSE Drama Showcase at King’s Bangkok

At King's College International School Bangkok, students have the opportunity to study IGCSE Drama as one of their examination options. It is a creative subject that facilitates purposeful reflection, with students working to develop themselves whilst also being a part of an effective team. Drama also gives students an opportunity to develop a curiosity and a passion for what they are interested in, with the support and guidance to communicate these passions effectively and imaginatively. 

These images from the recent IGCSE Drama showcase, whereby students devised their own group performances from a starting point, reflect the two vastly different examined performances of Years 10 and 11. These IGCSE performances were devised by the students themselves, with the Year 10 students have developed a performance about feelings of isolation experienced during Covid-19 lockdowns in the style of the Theatre Company The Paper Birds. In contrast to the dark, contemplative creation of the Year 10s, the students in Year 11 explored identity and cultural heritage, using the metaphor of an old tree to develop a haunting, allegorical tale of concealment and the importance of sustaining the cultural tradition.

King’s Bangkok would like to thank teachers from the Drama Department and our students. We are very proud of the IGCSE students and the work produced as part of this wonderful assessment evening.

การสอบของ IGCSE Drama ที่ผ่านมานั้น นักเรียน Year 10 และ 11 ได้ออกแบบการแสดงกันเป็นกลุ่มตั้งแต่เริ่มต้น ซึ่งเป็นรูปแบบการแสดงที่แตกต่างกัน โดยการแสดงของนักเรียนระดับชั้น Year 10 เป็นบทละครพูดที่เขียนขึ้นจากความรู้สึกและประสบการณ์ที่ได้เจอในช่วงสถานการณ์ล็อกดาวน์ระหว่างการระบาดของโควิด-19 และนำเสนอในแบบฉบับการแสดงของคณะละคร The Paper Birds ที่เน้นไปที่บทพูดที่สะท้อนความรู้สึกภายในออกมา ส่วนนักเรียนระดับชั้น Year 11 เลือกที่จะสำรวจตัวตนของมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมอย่างต้นไม้เก่าแก่ และถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวเชิงเปรียบเทียบที่สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความสำคัญของการรักษาประเพณีและวัฒนธรรมเอาไว้
