Maths, a subject that is fun and accessible to all

Last week at King’s Bangkok, we held a Maths Slam where competitors were student representatives from every Primary School class. In the semi-finals, we gave every student who attended the competition in the audience a chance to solve the maths competition problems together with the contestants. In addition, Mrs Searle led a handful of Senior School students who volunteered to check the participants’ scores and send the strongest students from each year group through to the next round.

This competition was especially noteworthy as not only did we have student contestants, but also teachers took part. The audience, composed of participants’ peers, was fully included in the event, holding up signs as they cheered for their friends up front. We were pleased to see so many students and teachers enjoying themselves; we want Maths to be fun and accessible to all who wish to join in.

เมื่อสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา โรงเรียนนานาชาติคิงส์คอลเลจกรุงเทพ ได้จัดการแข่งขัน Maths Slam ขึ้น โดยมีตัวแทนนักเรียนจากแต่ละชั้นปีเข้าร่วมแข่งขันตอบคำถามทางคณิตศาสตร์ และเราได้เปิดโอกาสให้นักเรียนที่เข้าชมการแข่งขันได้แก้โจทย์คณิตศาสตร์ไปพร้อม ๆ กันกับผู้เข้าแข่งขันอีกด้วย นอกจากนี้ ครูเฮเลนยังได้ให้นักเรียนรุ่นพี่ได้มีส่วนร่วมน่ารัก ๆ คอยเป็นผู้ตรวจนับคะแนนให้กับผู้เข้าแข่งขันเพื่อคัดเลือกไปยังรอบถัดไปจนได้ผู้ชนะจากแต่ละชั้นปี และความพิเศษอีกอย่างหนึ่งคือเราได้ให้คุณครูมาร่วมแข่งขันแก้โจทย์คณิตศาสตร์ โดยมีเด็ก ๆ เป็นกองเชียร์ ชูป้ายให้กำลังใจพร้อมลุ้นคำตอบไปพร้อม ๆ กัน และคุณครูเองก็คอยเป็นกองเชียร์ให้กับเด็ก ๆ ด้วยเช่นกัน ทั้งนี้ต้องขอขอบคุณครูทาร่าที่ช่วยทำให้คณิตศาสตร์เป็นเรื่องสนุกที่ทุกคนสามารถเข้าถึงและมาสนุกสนานร่วมกันได้
