Embracing yourself and differences at King’s Bangkok

Following our recent post about Anti-Bullying Week, with its central theme of “One Kind Word”, King’s College International School Bangkok is proud that every one of our students participated in the thought-provoking activities we provided. Not only did we encourage them to positively communicate with others, but we also supported their inward discovery and journeys to a more optimistic mindset. 

Last weeks, our teachers decorated a wall corner with Early Years students’ work to coincide with the following topic: “We are all different, but we all fit together at King’s Bangkok”. Regarding our older students, we had them answer this prompt: “Why am I special?”, so they could reflect on their personal values and those of their peers. There was a wide variety of responses, including: "I am special because..."
“I am surrounded by amazing friends.”,
“I am reliable, caring and kind.”,
“I am special in my own way.”,
“I have two lovely brothers.”

We ensured that the question would warrant open-ended answers depending on personal values and that the students knew that there was no right or wrong response. King’s Bangkok believes that, through activities such as these, students can become more aware of their own values. In this way, they will be able to grow into strong, empathetic and well-rounded young men and women.

จากโพสต์ล่าสุดเกี่ยวกับการรณรงค์ต่อต้านการกลั่นแกล้ง ซึ่งธีมหลักในปีนี้ คือ “One kind word” โรงเรียนนานาชาติคิงส์คอลเลจกรุงเทพรู้สึกดีใจอย่างยิ่ง ที่ได้เห็นนักเรียนแต่ละคนได้มีส่วนร่วมในการรณรงค์นี้ โดยนอกจากเราจะสนับสนุนการสื่อสารเชิงบวกต่อผู้อื่นแล้ว เรายังให้เด็ก ๆ สะท้อนแง่มุมดี ๆ ของตัวพวกเขาและสื่อสารออกมาอีกด้วย

คุณครูของเราได้ตกแต่งผนังอิฐมุมหนึ่งของโรงเรียนด้วยผลงานของเด็ก Early Years ภายใต้หัวข้อ “We are all different but we all fit together at King’s Bangkok” ซึ่งแสดงถึงความแตกต่างของเด็ก ๆ แต่ละคนที่ถึงแม้จะแตกต่าง แต่ก็มาเป็นเพื่อนกันได้ที่โรงเรียนของเรา ส่วนนักเรียนระดับชั้นที่โตกว่าก็ได้ร่วมกิจกรรมที่สร้างความตระหนักรู้คุณค่าของตัวเองและได้เรียนรู้คุณค่าของผู้อื่น ผ่านการสะท้อนด้วยคำถาม “Why am I special?” ซึ่งคำตอบของนักเรียนแต่ละคนก็แตกต่างและหลากหลาย มีทั้ง “ฉันเป็นคนพิเศษเพราะฉันรายล้อมไปด้วยเพื่อน ๆ ที่ยอดเยี่ยม” “ฉันเป็นคนพิเศษเพราะฉันน่าเชื่อถือ เอาใจใส่ผู้อื่น และจิตใจดี” “ฉันพิเศษในแบบที่ฉันเป็น” “ฉันเป็นคนพิเศษเพราะฉันมีน้องชายที่น่ารัก 2 คน” ฯลฯ

คำตอบของคำถามในกิจกรรมเหล่านี้ไม่ได้ตายตัว และไม่มีถูกหรือผิด ขึ้นอยู่กับว่าใครจะให้ค่าความสำคัญกับอะไร คิงส์คอลเลจกรุงเทพเชื่อว่าการทำกิจกรรมเหล่านี้เป็นการสร้างให้เด็ก ๆ ของเราตระหนักถึงคุณค่าในตัวเองในแบบที่พวกเขาเป็น ซึ่งสิ่งนี้จะเป็นหนึ่งในเกราะป้องกันและสร้างให้พวกเขาเติบโตอย่างแข็งแกร่ง และเข้าใจคุณค่าของคนแต่ละคนอันจะต่อยอดไปที่การยอมรับและเข้าอกเข้าใจผู้อื่นในสังคมอีกด้วย
