Artist in residence: a Balinese artist and his lessons of sculpture

King's College International School Bangkok had the opportunity to welcome an Indonesian sculptor from Ubud, a town on the Indonesian island of Bali. It is also a district where many artists live; it is also a city of arts and culture that blends traditional and contemporary art together. Wahyu started learning carving at the age of 10 from his father, who was also a sculptor and has accumulated more than 30 years of artistic creation experience. 
Wahyu demonstrated the carving of a high relief sculpture at The Quad of King's Bangkok. He spent almost 2 weeks from the start until the end of the creation process. Interested students and parents came to visit and talk with the artist while he demonstrated the process of creating his art. This work was inspired by the shared values of the school: good manners, kindness, and wisdom, as seen in this post the sculpture has been installed on the wall in the Heart building for students and parents to appreciate.
In addition, Wahyu also taught some subjects with Stacy Allen, Head of Art, to sharing his knowledge, skills, and experiences in art with our students.

โรงเรียนนานาชาติคิงส์คอลเลจกรุงเทพ มีโอกาสต้อนรับประติมากรชาวอินโดนีเซียจากเมืองอูบุดบนเกาะบาหลี เมืองที่มีศิลปินอาศัยอยู่มากมาย อีกทั้งยังเป็นเมืองแห่งศิลปะและวัฒนธรรมที่ผสมผสานความดั้งเดิมและร่วมสมัยเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน โดย คุณ Wahyu เริ่มเรียนรู้การแกะสลักตั้งแต่อายุเพียง 10 ขวบ จากคุณพ่อซึ่งเป็นประติมากร สั่งสมประสบการณ์และสร้างสรรค์ผลงานมามากกว่า 30 ปี 
โดยคุณ Wahyu ได้ใช้เวลากว่าสองสัปดาห์ ตั้งแต่เริ่มการแกะสลักจนได้เป็นชิ้นงานสำเร็จ ซึ่งนักเรียนและผู้ปกครองต่างให้ความสนใจ แวะเวียนมาร่วมชมและพูดคุยกับศิลปิน โดยผลงานชิ้นนี้ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากคุณค่าร่วมของโรงเรียน ได้แก่ การมีมารยาทที่นอบน้อม (Good Manners) จิตใจที่เปี่ยมด้วยความเมตตา (Kindness) และจิตวิญญาณแห่งการใฝ่รู้สู่ปัญญา (Wisdom) จนออกมาเป็นผลงานดังที่เห็นในโพสต์นี้ และผลงานการแกะสลักนี้ได้ถูกนำมาติดตั้งในบริเวณโรงเรียนเพื่อให้นักเรียนและผู้ปกครองได้ชื่นชมกัน
นอกจากนี้ คุณ Wahyu ได้ร่วมสอนในบางรายวิชาร่วมกับคุณครูสเตซี่ อัลเลน Head of Art เพื่อร่วมแบ่งปันความรู้ ทักษะ และประสบการณ์ในการทำงานศิลปะให้กับนักเรียนของเรา
