The “Protector” at King's Bangkok

If you have ever visited King's College International School Bangkok, you might have seen the "Protector" sculpture created by Ajarn Khien Yimsiri, who tells stories through his unique sculptures. He is a renowned Thai artist who gained a Distinction in Sculpture in 1953, 1st prize gold medals (Sculpture) at the 1st and 2nd National Exhibition of Art, and has exhibited his work at prestigious galleries in Thailand and abroad, such as the Tate galleries in London.

In the "Protector" sculpture, the artist expresses his feeling towards the bond between a mother and her child. The loving arm caressing her child symbolises the warm-hearted love and protection which the mother always has for her child - the great love in her heart - and reflects the protection of love and the close bond between them. These themes are part of our approach to education and pastoral care at King’s Bangkok. Another key reason behind our pastoral care is to ensure every student’s well-rounded growth and development from their very first day until graduation.

We were delighted to receive this gift and are grateful to the Suksriwong family, who gave one of their most valuable pieces of art in order to highlight the crucial role of pastoral care.
