Co-Curricular Life · Early Years

Learning Through Creativity and Play

Learning doesn’t end when lessons do. Through a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, our youngest students begin to explore passions, build friendships, and grow in ways that are just as important as what’s taught in class.

Engaging Co-Curricular Activities for Young Learners

Our co-curricular activities are designed to foster creativity and teamwork among young learners.
We believe that play and exploration are essential for holistic development.

Journey from the Start
‍

At King's Early Years, the co-curricular programme springs to life from Pre-nursery onwards. Guided by our Early Years specialist teachers in Physical Development, Swimming, Music, Thai, and Mandarin, children are introduced to familiar adults who support and guide them on their journey throughout their time in Early Years.

Facilities and Resources that Inspire Learning

Supported by a dazzling array of state-of-the-art facilities and a combination of high-quality locally sourced educational resources and furniture, as well as importing some of the best education materials from across the world, the children are wonderfully challenged within the next steps of their learning.

Physical Development
in Early Years

Children build confidence and self worth through exciting and challenging experiences, such as gymnastics skills, multi-sport foundations and team games. They explore movement and expression, through dance and music built into their weekly schedule of Physical Development lessons. Fine motor control is an aspect that is keenly developed, especially in Reception where these skills are critical to early writing techniques. Many opportunities are built into the environment, overseen by our Physical Development specialist to ensure that children are receiving appropriately challenging experiences that allow them to develop the full breadth of skills. Ultimately, the highest quality experiences in early childhood foster a sense of belonging and strengthen relationships which is an integral part of the Physical Development program here at King’s EY, ensuring not only that children are supported in their physical development, but also their social and emotional development as well. Through a multimodal approach, our students here at King’s discover their passions and are set on a path towards lifelong engagement and enjoyment.

Musical Development in Early Years

Music is woven into our school life at King’s, from transitions and tidying up, to circle time and play. Beyond this natural integration, our music specialist enriches children’s experiences by providing a strong foundation in singing, exploring instruments, and discovering the expressive power of sound. This builds their confidence, sparks curiosity, and lays the foundations for attentive listening. In Pre-Nursery, children are welcomed into a nurturing environment where they can freely explore a wide variety of instruments. They enjoy nursery rhymes and begin to experiment with contrasts such as fast and slow, loud and quiet. In Nursery, music becomes more structured, with children beginning to play simple melodies, keep a steady beat, and experience rhythm through songs, rhymes, and stories. By the time they reach Reception, children are ready to extend their skills into music-making, dancing, composing, performing, and developing more focused listening. At every stage, music builds confidence, communication, and joy, fostering creativity and a lifelong love of the arts. Throughout the year, all children in Early Years have the opportunity to perform as part of our December and June ‘Courtyard Concerts’, showcasing their talents to the community.

Thai Language

The Thai curriculum in the Early Years nurtures children’s growth and prepares them for a confident transition into Year 1. Learning is built around play, songs, and storytelling, which are joyful and natural ways for young children to explore and make sense of the world. Through play, children develop creativity, independence, and social skills, while songs enrich language, rhythm, and memory in an engaging way. Storytelling further supports listening, imagination, and moral understanding, introducing children to both Thai traditions and modern tales.

Alongside academic foundations, the curriculum emphasises good manners, kindness, and respect. Children practise greetings, saying thank you, and caring for others, which supports positive relationships and social development. Activities are hands-on and interactive, encouraging early literacy, numeracy, and physical skills in meaningful contexts.
By combining learning with cultural values, the Thai curriculum fosters curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning, ensuring children are ready for the challenges of Primary school.

Mandarin section

The Early Years Mandarin programme introduces children to one of the world’s most widely spoken languages through joyful, play-based learning. Lessons are filled with songs, movement, stories, and games, helping children absorb vocabulary, tone, and rhythm in a way that feels natural and fun.

At this developmental stage, young learners are especially receptive to new sounds and patterns. Our approach builds familiarity with Mandarin through daily routines and interactive activities, laying the groundwork for confident speaking and listening skills in future years.

Just as importantly, the programme introduces children to Chinese culture, sparking curiosity and global awareness. With gentle guidance from native-speaking teachers, children not only gain early language exposure but also grow in focus, listening, and intercultural understanding.

swimming sections

Swimming is a core part of physical education in the Early Years, giving children the chance to build water confidence, motor skills, and safety awareness from an early age. Led by specialist instructors in our child-friendly pool, sessions are designed to be safe, supportive, and filled with encouragement.

Through guided play, floating exercises, and basic stroke techniques, children begin to feel at ease in the water while developing strength, coordination, and balance. Swimming also supports sensory regulation and emotional confidence, making it especially valuable for early development.

Most importantly, each child is supported at their own pace. Whether it’s learning to splash, float, or take their first strokes, swimming at King’s Bangkok nurtures resilience, joy, and a sense of achievement, all in a safe, caring environment.

Extra curricular activities

As the children move through Early Years, experiencing both excellent pastoral care and individualised learning pathways with their class teacher, we build on their love of learning. Specialist teaching of key areas strengthens confidence and inspires the children to challenge themselves, as well as providing an excellent foundation for their next steps within the Primary school. In Reception, specialist teaching in the Library, the addition of Mandarin lessons as well as increasing the number of Thai and Physical Development lessons ensures that the levels of challenge and inspiration for our youngest learners grows throughout their time in Early Years.

The extra-curricular program is our children’s first experience of lessons outside their classroom and provides a wealth of opportunities. From ‘Baby Jazz Dance’ to ‘Rumble Tumble Gymnastics’, the children receive such a variety of experiences which help them to hone their skills and passions.
