Let’s work out!

What exercise should our children do at home when they cannot have PE lessons at school?

As part of "WeCare & WeShare" campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic, King’s Bangkok’s Headmaster, Thomas Banyard, and Head of Pre-prep, Helen Searle, share their thoughts below in response to this question that relates to physical and emotional development of students.

“Physical exercise is incredibly important to children both for their health and for their general wellbeing. The hormones produced from exercise are a big contributor to happiness and it is essential that you find safe and age-appropriate activities for your child everyday. There is no set curriculum or formula that you need to follow, but it really helps if you can do something together as a family that you all enjoy. This could be cycling, skipping, swimming, or simple games like 'catch' which encourage children to move around.”

“At this time, the government advises us to avoid contact sports and to maintain physical distancing by avoiding crowded areas. If you are not sure whether an activity is right, use the simple checklist ‘APES’: are the children ‘Active’, is the activity ‘Purposeful’, is it ‘Enjoyable’ and is it ‘Safe’?” If yes to all four, it’s a good activity!
