Our Year 4 students at King's Bangkok have been learning about why the Earth’s surface is constantly moving so they know all about the effects of earthquakes and tsunamis.

Last week, when the students heard the news about the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Monday 6th February they were desperate to help the families affected.

Poppy in Y4G persuaded her classmates to write and sell newspaper articles about the earthquakes to raise funds. Students in other Year 4 classes also wanted to make a difference so the "Sharing The Love" fundraising event was created with the aim of making it happen in the same week as Valentine’s Day.

The “Sharing The Love” event, held today at King’s Bangkok, featured selling exclusive newspapers, cakes, handmade gifts and raffle tickets to raise money for the “ShelterBox" charity which is providing emergency aid to earthquake victims. Year 4 Primary teacher and event coordinator, Ms Jo Cullen says "We are so proud of our Year 4 students for showing kindness by supporting a community in need. This is kindness and real-life learning in action."

“ShelterBox” is a charity that is close to another King’s teacher's heart, as DT teacher, Harry Roberts, volunteers for “ShelterBox”. He is delighted by the direct action the Year 4 students are taking. The money raised by the “Sharing The Love” fundraising event will help ShelterBox provide tents, cooking equipment and other supplies for families who have lost everything in the devastating earthquake which has affected Turkish and Syrian families.

What a great way for the King’s Bangkok community to “share the love”.
