Design and Technology (DT) and Robotics are two subjects that King’s College International School Bangkok focuses on because they encourage the integration of prior knowledge and experience from other subject areas in our curricula, and allow our students to plan and execute projects from start to finish. DT and Robotics also strengthen their problem-solving abilities, adding to the reserve of transferable skills.

In DT, our students learn to design and create products by themselves, whether it’s a lamp, chair, keyring, mug, or more. To successfully complete projects, creativity is essential, as is a foundational knowledge about materials and composition; these work together to transform what they imagined into a tangible end product. Meanwhile, in Robotics class, students learn about electronic mechanisms and hardware, using their experience from Computer Science in areas such as coding to manufacture engines or robots that will automate part of their design, making the whole process more efficient and reproducible.

As part of a rapidly-developing generation, King’s Bangkok carefully selected modern and widely functioning tools and equipment for DT and Robotics. Harry Roberts, our Head of DT, has stated that it is rare for schools to invest in high-tech machines for students to utilise and explore. However, at King’s Bangkok, students will have an opportunity to learn from the latest technology. For example, our fully functional laser cutter can cut, drill, engrave and more with a variety of materials, ranging from acrylic to wood; students have access to a 3D printer, mould barrier, disc sander, vacuum former, bandsaw, multi-cut and extraction machine, among other equipment.

Moreover, King’s Bangkok aims to instil an awareness of and passion about solving environmental issues in our students as these affect each and every one of us. Therefore, we provide them with a plastic granulator and plastic sheet press machine, both of which can be used to recycle used or leftover plastic from any projects on which they work. Single-use plastic bottles can be recycled using this equipment. Once the plastic has been reformed into sheets, students can then reuse them in future projects, so we can minimise our carbon footprint and keep our cohort mindful of the environmental repercussions of their work.

King’s Bangkok truly hopes that the world-class equipment we thoughtfully selected and designed for our students will be one of the many factors that support their learning experiences and form a set of basic, yet essential life skills for them.

นอกจากนี้ เรายังต้องการปลูกฝังให้นักเรียนของเราใส่ใจสิ่งแวดล้อม จึงได้ติดตั้งเครื่องบดและขึ้นรูปพลาสติก เพื่อสนับสนุนให้นักเรียนได้สร้างสรรค์ชิ้นงานของตัวเอง จากพลาสติกเหลือใช้ให้กลับเป็นชิ้นงานใหม่ของพวกเขาอีกด้วย
